Baklan Basics

Creating an Account

Baklan is a mobile app that you can download on Android phones and tablets from Google Play Store . You must create your account using the Baklan mobile app, not a computer. After you've downloaded the app and created an account, you can then use the username and password entered during the account creation to log in to this site.

To start using Baklan

1. Download the Baklan for Android from Google Play Store .

2. Once the app is installed, tap Baklan Logo to open it.

3. Tap Create Account, then enter your username, password and email in account assistant and tap Next to create your Baklan account.

4. If all goes well, the app will register to our SIP server and you can start making voice calls.

Making Calls

In order to make your first free calls and test the Baklan app, you can dial one of our free numbers 00400 - 00409 and listen to an internet radio station. Baklan is compatible with most voip service providers and PBX's.

Enjoy free calls between Baklan users. You can speak with your online friends as long as you like, for free. To reach Baklan user, you should dial SIP ID or login of that user.

And of course call all over the world at low rates (from $0.006) with no connection fee and with per-second billing. To call international or domestic numbers from Baklan you’ll need to top up your account.

Security and Encryption

To ensure privacy and security of your communications Baklan app supports TLS and SRTP protocols.

By using Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol to encrypt SIP signalling, parameters such as phone numbers and user names sent between your Baklan app and your called party cannot be captured. TLS also helps prevent third parties from eavesdropping or tampering with messages.

Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP) protects your conversations by encrypting audio and video media traffic – and even if unauthorized users were able to intercept and capture your audio packets, they would be unable to recognize it as speech.

You can also use ZRTP protocol for media encryption.

To enable these protocols tap Settings, then tap Your SIP account and click on Secure communication checkbox. Now when your conversation is secured, you see the green lock icon Security lock in the status bar above.

Push Notifications

Once you enable Push Notifications in Baklan application, we register your SIP account on Baklan Communications Server (our server that handles Push Notifications) whenever you exit the app (whether you move it to the background or close it). To your SIP provider or PBX, it looks just like any other registration, making you available for calls. Once Baklan Server recieves an invite (incoming call), we send the relevant information to Google, who sends you a Push Notification. Once you accept the Push Notification, Baklan application will open and Baklan Server will connect the call to your device. At this point SIP Traffic will continue to be routed through Baklan Server, while audio will go directly to the device.

Presence conveys on-the-phone and off-the-phone information like a busy lamp, but that’s just the beginning. Presence can also tell you that the user is out of the office, hasn’t touched his or her phone in so many minutes, doesn’t want to be disturbed, is in a meeting, is on a phone call, has left for lunch, is sick and working from home, etc.

To start publishing your presence information tap Settings, then in SIP accounts tap your default account and click on Enable Presence checkbox.

To see your contact's availability and status select your contact in contact's list and tap on his or her sip address, then click on green Status button.

Language Support

For the time being Baklan app supports English, Spanish and Russian user interfaces.
